Farmers Market Moves Outdoors
Saratoga Farmers Market Returns To High Rock Avenue Pavilion
It's a sure sign that warmer weather is here when the Saratoga Farmers Market opens its summer market at the pavilions on High Rock Avenue. May 1st marked the first day of the summer for our Famer Market, boasting a wide variety of fresh, local product and, of course, plenty of market shoppers. The market continues until Oct 30th.
Suzanne Voigt, market coordinator, welcomed the summer market with enthusiasm. "I'm excited!" she said. "It's so great to return to the pavilions and be outside in the fresh air."
Many others shared Voigt's sentiments, highly anticipating the opening of the summer market. The pavilions provide a unique outdoor shopping experience with a wide variety of product selection that only a summer market can offer. All products sold at the market this year (with the exception of coffee) are locally grown. Several new vendors have joined the Saratoga Farmers Market this season, bringing an even more diverse selection to the summer market.
"The ambiance at High Rock Pavilions is perfect for a farmers' market," Voigt said. "There is more room for everything: vendors, shoppers, music, children and of course socializing. More room means that it's bigger with more product and more diversity of product. We are very excited about the new vendors joining us and the quality and diversity their products bring to our market."
In addition to a great selection and shopping experience, market-goers may even save a great deal of money this summer by buying local rather than from a grocery retailer.
"As food is becoming more and more controlled by big international corporations we know less and less about where our food comes from and what is involved in its production," Voigt said. "Large corporate food production and transportation are two of our biggest polluters. The price of fossil fuel in production and transportation are driving grocery bills to new highs."
The popularity of the Saratoga Farmers Market has grown tremendously through its 30+ years of operation in the Spa City. Voigt credits the healthy food and great shopping environment for the market's popularity.
"At the market one gets to buy healthy, great tasting food while listening to live music, perhaps seeing their neighbor or having coffee with a friend," Voigt said. "Where else is grocery shopping so fun? It's a wonderful, feel good, do good, healthy shopping extravaganza!"
If you haven't been to the summer market yet, what are you waiting for? Shopping at the Saratoga Farmers Market is a great way to stay healthy and support the local economy. There are great-tasting, home-grown local foods, homemade products, crafts and so much more to discover!
