Style 101 For Summer Of 2008
By: Laura Farrar & Andrea Lee, Violet's of Saratoga
Okay, so we aren't all lucky enough to have a revolving closet full of the season's (well, every season's, for that matter) must-haves, like 'Cher' in the 1995 classic movie, Clueless. And like we all have access to a computer that chooses, matches and accessorizes our outfits like 'Cher' also used. As if. Instead, we rely on TV shows and magazines, to guide us in the direction fashion is headed, and let us know the latest styles. Well here's a tip, ladies... this summer is all about the following five trends:
-
Bold statements and bright colors
Bright colors, especially those that are citrus, are dominating the 2008 color scheme. Yellow, bright green, orange and coral are the colors of the season, being used in both clothing and accessories. -
Embellished tunics
Tunics with embellishments or embroidery can be worn with white pants or simple summer slacks to give a classy get comfortable look. Tunics can also be worn every summer, which makes them a safe investment for seasons to come. -
Classic eyelet patterns
The best example of eyelet dresses and vivid colors are Shoshanna dresses, in a light turquoise blue short-sleeved shift and in an orange strapless and three-quarter length sleeved dress. Eyelets give a more feminine approach to classic dresses. -
Bohemian long dresses
The sixties are returning with bohemian-styled long dresses, large floral and tribal prints. In the Mexico scene of the Sex and the City movie, Samantha, Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda are all shown in either bright colors or abstract, tribal printed dresses. Create a feminine, elegant look with a long summer dress. -
Timeless must-haves
These are the tried and true items in your closet that can be worn and recycled every summer. A perfect example is one of the Susana Monaco supplex dresses, which effortlessly combine style with comfort and are sold exclusively in downtown Saratoga at Violet's of Saratoga.
When it comes to accessorizing and pulling off an outfit, the spotlight is on pashminas, structured clutches, cuff bracelets and gladiator sandals. Stick with metallics for footwear that can be worn with different ensembles, and vivid colored accessories. Find the must-haves that fit your personal style.
Finally, always remember... dress for your body, and not solely the trend. Trends can fade, but personal styles are constantly evolving.
