Saratoga High School Football: One Game Away From States
They are 9-1 this season. But their most important game is still yet to come. The Saratoga Springs High School football team is one game away from making it to the New York State championship game at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY. First, Saratoga must meet Section I champion New Rochelle (10-0), the new No. 1 team in the state Saturday, November 21 in the state Class AA semifinals in Kingston.
Playing in the Carrier Dome has been the dream of Saratoga senior kicker, Nick Daley, who has been a phenomenal weapon in getting his team this far! Daley starts at defensive back and sometimes at wide receiver, but his true talent is as a kicker - he hasn't missed a kick yet.
At 6-foot-1, 170 lbs. he has quite the kick to watch out for! He has made seven field goals, including a season-best 48-yeard attempt. He also nailed the 40-yard attempt against Ballston Spa during the Section II Class AA Super Bowl.
Daley understands the importance of a good kickoff, which is one of the secrets to why his team has gotten so far. When performing long kickoffs, Saratoga can create problems for their opponent's offense, making them drive 80 yards or more.
Both Daley, and Saratoga coach Terry Jones, are proud of his work out on the field, both offensively and defensively. All this hard work Saratoga has put in will hopefully pay off, and Daley will get his dream of playing in the Dome
