Everyone is focused on healthcare reform. The question I present in my recent blog at dr-lobisco.com is why we are so bent on providing access to a broken system.

What most people are truly looking for is time with a doctor who will listen and create space for a therapeutic relationship. They want doctors that have heart and insight.

As the Holistic Practitioner’s Journey states:

People don’t really need your instructions and details. They can find those online. They need your insights – the understanding that can only come from experience, wisdom, training, and synthesis. That’s the stuff that keeps them coming back, and helps them stick with tough treatments or make tough changes. The stretching exercises. The diet plans. The food lists. The instruction sheets. The handouts. All too often they take the place of genuine wisdom.

The number one cause of death in America is still cardiovascular disease. Yet, most people are unaware that the leading predictor of death is isolation, not cholesterol or other metabolic markers. In other words, people can literally die from broken hearts.

The answer is not creating more schisms between healer and patient, but in creating room in reform to allow the doctor to practice the art of medicine. One of means to do this is to allow physicians more quality time with the patient, not just cutting costs and increasing access.

Fun Facts on the Heart and Nutrition

I listened to a great webinar about nutrients for heart health, here’s some facts I wanted to share with you:

· CoQ10 prevents breakdown of heart muscle

· CoQ10 is depleted by Statins, Beta Blockers, and Diabetes drugs

· For optimal heart pumping power, the heart muscle needs carnitine, D-ribose, coQ10

· D-ribose stimulates ATP, the energy source of all cells

· B vitamins, magnesium, and minerals are needed for most energy pathways in the body
