I just posted my November 2013 Top Holistic Health Reads. I expressed how
I wanted to keep it short, in order to provide more bonding time with loved
ones. This is because loving and caring connections to others creates a
positive effect on our health. However, I am aware that not everyone is blessed
with a family that boosts their feel good brain chemicals such as dopamine and oxytocin.
Therefore, for those who experience a rise in stress hormones on turkey day, here
are two tips to consider to calm your body and mind down.
Nature Medicine
Pack your hat and mittens for an
escape in nature. According to New York
Daily News:
If you’re
struggling with stress, anxiety, or worry, get back to nature, advise British
health experts. The mental health charity Mind just released a report showing
scientifically backed findings on the mental health benefits of “ecotherapy” –
programs designed to promote well-being through outdoor activities in nature,
such as walking groups or community gardening.
Tap Away Your Stress
The Passing of Roger Calhan and a
Review of the Benefits of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
I often recommend tapping as a tool to
my clients when they are feeling triggered by emotions or if they are in a
state of overwhelm. This technique provides them with an empowering tool to
calm their body’s fight-or-flight response that result in many negative health
consequences.
During EFT, specific acupressure
points are tapped on while one expresses their current health or emotional
concern. This technique is based on traditional Chinese medicine in combination
with the science of stress physiology.
You can access the science,
technique, and testimonials about tapping in Nick Ortner’s free eBook (the
first two chapters of The Tapping
Solution) found within one of his recent blogs. In keeping with the theme
of this month, Nick expressed his gratitude for Roger Calhan’s contribution to
the Emotional Freedom Technique, which is based on Calhan’s work.
This is a fairly quick read and
great holiday-stress-preparatory manual.
