I was listening to the weekly podcast with Dr. Northrup and Gabrielle Bernstein on HayHouse and I was bit by the inspiration bug this morning to share an international movement.
It’s not only the day of the heart in love and romance but in a movement that is aimed to bring love and healing to a dark subject…violence.
I have seen every day how my client’s biography affects their biology. These long-term thought patterns from their life stories have negative impacts on their nervous system, acting as physiological stresses.
These “stress effects” can lead to manifestation of various diseases due to the resultant inflammation, immune disorders, hormonal and blood sugar imbalances, weight gain, and mood disorders. (See links below.)
One Billion…
We have to make as important to physical medicine the healing of emotional hurts on an individual and societal level. This should be used in partnership with practitioners who have a strong foundation in functional and bioindividual medicine. It’s through this merger of honoring our own body’s innate wisdom with the science of biological and genetic individuality, that we will shift from a “war on disease” to true “preventative medicine.”
In this way, a true health-care system will result over our current disease-care nation. Therefore, we need a movement to symbolize our readiness for change.
Dr. Northrup recently published an article on OneBillionRising.org that explains the need for a movement that heals the emotional and physical violence in our society, in order to heal our individual health:
When it came to women’s health, I couldn’t help but notice how profoundly a woman’s health was affected by her experience of being female in a male-dominated culture. I wrote a piece for a publication called Woman of Power back then, which became the basis for my first book, Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom. Here’s the first paragraph:
For the practice of gynecology and obstetrics to be healing for women in the deepest sense, we must understand the experience of being female in this culture and how this affects our bodies. Consider the following: Over her lifetime, one in three women will be the victim of rape. Forty percent of women are incest survivors. According to FBI statistics, 50 percent of married women will be the victims of battering. These statistics, though shocking, are probably understated when we consider the silence and subsequent underreporting that have surrounded crimes of gender.
The movement
Dancing!
Dr. Northrup continues:
Dance as if Your Life Depended on It
Dancing. What a potent and powerful way to lift the darkness and transform it into light and joy!!! Every indigenous culture has used the primal experience of dance to create community and joy. Statistics don’t heal us. Numbing the pain doesn’t heal us. We are healed by primal experiences in our bodies–experiences of light and joy and movement.
When we strike, dance, and rise together we entrain the rhythm of our music with the song in our hearts. We remember who we really are. And we become not just another wounded or suffering woman. Our dancing presence becomes the solution itself.
And it doesn’t have to stop today…
Every time you hear of or witness something that would profoundly affect one’s biology by changing their biography, send a little thought of healing and do a little dance of love in their honor. It may not change their life, but it will have a small effect. At least it will keep your heart open.
In order to create a lasting change of happy, healthy, people within nations, we have to change the mindset that created sick, isolated, and depressed populations, one person at a time.
