I received a letter from the school. Your child’s third dose of Hep B was invalid, she needs an “extra dose”.
I called the doctor’s office, she had all three of her shots, is she covered? The answer…
Yes, she is covered and immune, everything is fine, she’s not at risk for hep b. However, NYS has changed the rules. One set of your daughters shots was 4 months apart and as of this year, they now require 6 months apart. So she will need an extra dose. According to the small pediatric office that I go to, there are 700 other parents who are in the same situation as I am whose children are immune from Hep B but need are now required to get an extra dose.
Is it safe, I asked?
Of course the answer is always “yes” when it comes to vaccines. The Hep B vaccine has a chemical additive called aluminum hydroxide adjuvant. This is considered safe. Aluminum is on the GRAS list – generally recognized as safe.
Yet so many people believe aluminum is “potentially harmful”. There is currently no scientific evidence that small levels of aluminum are toxic, yet, I don’t cook using aluminum foil, I use parchment paper instead. Rather than use deodorant with aluminum that works really well, I suffer with the all-natural versions, rather than cook on cheap aluminum pans, I bought and use expensive ceramic pans. I even avoid aluminum water bottles and drinking from aluminum cans. I don’t believe small amounts of aluminum are bad for us, I think our bodies can expel it, however, like with any toxin, I am concerned that excessive exposure can be harmful and we are exposed to toxins daily.
We know aluminum is not “good for you”, we also know a lot of things have been on the safe lists that are now considered carcinogenic.
I understand there are risks to vaccines but I do believe there is a greater good to vaccines and that we should vaccinate for the greater good. However, when there is no risk and this is just a whimsical change by the New York State Health Department that requires me by law to give an unnecessary additional vaccine with aluminum to my child, I’m pissed off.
If I don’t give her this unnecessary dose right away, they will not allow her to go to school. If it’s so safe, I’d like to see the person who approved this and requires his, give themselves unlimited doses and be the guinea pig for the experiments.
