I got a great tip last week from a friend who is a stay-at-home dad and lost 50 pounds and got his kids to eat better in the process. How did he do it? Every morning when he woke up, he made a raw huge veggie platter. By snacking on veggies all day, he was full and didn’t eat as much junk. The side benefit was that his kids would walk by and grab a carrot or pepper and they were eating better too!
The way to get your kids to eat raw foods is to model it yourself and make it easy, have fruits and veggies sliced and ready to eat! It’s funny how we always eat the veggies off the platter at a party but don’t at home. That’s because it’s a lot of work to put together a platter but by doing it in the morning, you know exactly what to eat yourself and offer the kids during the day.
A Cornell Study shows that just by making fruits more visible on a kitchen counter, you are 18% more likely to consume them, if you make veggies more visible on your counters, you are 25% more likely to consume them. Then another Cornell study in schools shows cut up the veggies and fruit into bite size snacks and kids were 71% more likely to buy the fruit and consume it!
Need a healthy dip to go with it? For French Onion Dip, try this one . We also love guacamole which is very healthy as avocados have good fats and are full of fiber, potassium, vitamin e and b-vitamins and folic acid. For fruit serve with yogurt and honey for dipping! Here is my favorite guacamole recipe on Pinterest for those who want a great dip, limit the spices for kids:
Remember Bell Peppers, Celery, Carrots and Cucumbers should be organic.
So why not try making a veggie or cut up fruit platter and see what happens!
