When my daughter was five, she went to a neighbors house and came back so excited. She had discovered the best bread in the world. She was jumping up and down with excitement. She said mommy, you won’t believe it, it’s called…
Wonder Bread! It’s white and soft and SOOOO delicious! You should try it!
Oh my heart sank, she had finally tasted the forbidden fruit. Would she ever go back to our hard, nutty, seed filled bread? Let’s face it, kids want and LOVE white bread but there is little nutritional value in it. They also love over processed wheat bread made with corn syrup but this too is not the best choice for them. So as parents, we have to make the choice and tell them, this is the bread we eat.
I started out ordering sprouted spelt flour from Summer’s Sprouted Flours and making my own bread. This was amazing and the kids loved it but it was just too much work for a busy mom.
So we now buy sprouted grain bread from the super market (found in the freezer usually).

Why Are Sprouted Grains So Important?
I love the quote “if you have to cut the bread with an axe,
it’s just too healthy”, how true this is.
We love Ezekiel bread, which is best toasted, as a base for pizza or
warmed as let’s face it, it’s not the softest bread but it’s delicious and warming it makes it softer. What makes it so healthy is that it’s made
from sprouted whole grains. Which
according to NourishedKitchen.com is better because
- Sprouting activates food
enzymes - Sprouting increases
vitamin content - Sprouting neutralizes
anti-nutrients like phytic acid which bind up minerals preventing your
ability to fully absorb them.
