It’s been some time since I did a spotlight on an essential oil. So, I thought the start of the new year was a good time to change this.
I want to reacquaint you with an essential oil that is often overlooked, but a big part of my essential oil toolkit. It is elemi oil, or “poor man’s frankincense.”
Elemi belongs to the same botanical family (Burseraceae) as frankincense and myrrh. However, it differs from its relatives in that it contains a high content of the constituent limonene, which is typically found in citrus oils. This compound has been shown to have a variety of benefits including supporting cellular, digestive, and immune function.
This synergy of chemical characteristics make elemi a stand-out oil. It merges the healing properties of the holy ancient oils and the uplifting and wellness benefits of citrus essential oils.
