You may have wondered why heart health is so focused on in February. Although some may suspect it, it is not to increase the greeting card companies’ bottom line.
February was actually federally designated as American Heart Month in 1963 by President Lyndon B. Johnson (via Proclamation 3566). The fact that Valentine’s Day co-occurs during this month is just an additional perk to the health care community’s efforts to highlight the importance of caring for our heart.
So, since it is the end of February, I thought I also should discuss cardiovascular health and how essential oils can support our loving organ.
In the latest episode of the Essential Oil Revolution, I touch upon the following subjects relating to integrative heart support:
- Some of the most common risk factors for heart disease
- The great cholesterol debate
- The controversies about statins
- Overlooked factors for cardiovascular disease risk
- Heart disease in women and their unique symptoms that could signal underlying heart issues
- Isolation and socioeconomic aspects as risk factors for heart disease
- The impact of social connection on heart health
- The heart-brain link
- Holistic heart health support: How essential oils address underrecognized triggers of heart disease
- Various heart disease risk factors that essential oils can help modulate
- Some of my favorite single essential oils and oil blends that support heart health
- The science of heart rate coherence, the HeartMath Institute, and mind-body medicine
- The balancing impact of essential oils for the mind-body-heart
- Additional resources for essential oils education

There is no quality control in the United States, and oils labeled as “100% pure” need only to contain 5% of the actual oil. The rest of the bottle can be filled with fillers and sometimes toxic ingredients that can irritate the skin. The studies are not based solely on a specific brand of an essential oil, unless stated.
