Every symptom, every heartbeat, every stomach grumble and rumble, every chill….
What if there’s something really wrong?
We are living in a world where our amygdalas have been hijacked by negative news and current events.
With all that we’ve been through in the past few years, it’s more common than not to be hyper-aware of every bodily discomfort and signal. Yet, what if it’s gotten to the point where that’s the main focus of one’s day?
There’s a difference between getting a proper diagnosis for a concerning symptom to take empowering action and searching frantically and consistently for what’s wrong in the absence of pathology.
With health anxiety, one is constantly being haunted by worry over every bodily noise. It is a disabling mental health condition that robs one of their normal daily functioning and becomes an obsession. One is constantly seeking reassurance with continual trips to their doctors and no amount of stating “everything is normal” will do.
Regardless of what one may think, stress alone cannot explain this obsession.
I have witnessed several clients who have felt traumatized by medicine and the current events. They were hooked into this fearful cycle and their mental health suffered.
In order to help them, we had to first acknowledge what they were experiencing and to get them professional mental health support from an expert. This was complimented with our work on brain health and emotional, spiritual, and mind-body factors.
In my latest post, I discuss more about anxiety, what it isn’t, and provide tips on getting the proper diagnosis.
We’ve seen with the mental health crisis the rise in psychiatric symptoms, and currently two out of five Americans are reporting anxiety and depressive symptoms. I imagine this specific form of anxiety will only continue to rise.
I urge all those struggling to seek professional help and educate yourself.
I have seen significant turn arounds with clients with the correct diagnosis and treatments.
There is hope, and you don’t need to be trapped in your head
