Considering that lately many have been overly focused on their bodily symptoms, and that chronic stress can lead to psychiatric issues, I think it’s imperative that we are all mindful of our emotional state.
With the current world events and the rise in mental health conditions, now more than ever it is vital to provide education on the characteristics of brain health imbalances.
This is the reason that, for the past few weeks, I’ve been covering the topic of anxiety.
First, I broadly defined health anxiety and discussed the importance of getting the proper diagnosis for a mental health issue. Misdiagnoses is common in psychiatry and overtreatment, undertreatment, and ineffective interventions can have dire consequences. Therefore, one should be aware that there are differences in brain processing, mental functioning, and cognitive patterns in anxiety disorders. This allows one to differentiate them from the common symptoms of stress and/or other psychiatric disorders.
Next, I discussed “false anxiety.” If one can stop the scary brain chatter through alleviating blood sugar swings and adjusting lifestyle factors, it is likely not a true anxiety brain disorder. Rather, in this case, the anxiety symptoms are caused by a mind-body imbalance.
Now, in my latest article, I dive deeper into health anxiety. Topics include:
- The definition
- The causes
- The risk factors
- The diagnosis
- The treatment options
- The importance of treating the brain from an integrative perspective
Please take the time to learn more about this pervasive condition in our society by reading my article and/or watching the video summary here.
I urge all those struggling, or who know someone who is, to educate yourself and seek professional help as appropriate. Knowledge can lead to less stigma, more understanding, and better brain care.
I have seen significant turn arounds with clients with the correct diagnosis and treatments.
No one should suffer alone when there is so much that can be done.
