How often do you laugh?
Do you carve out time to relax?
I ask you these questions because your answers influence your genetic destiny and health outcomes.
We’ve previously explored the science on how integrative medicine (IM) and mindful-based practices have the ability to “turn on” genes that are health promoting and “turn down” molecular signals that are harmful. By reversing the detrimental cellular signals of stress and promoting beneficial molecular signals, mind-body practices can help to rewire our brains and bodies to thrive. This is important, because most physical and emotional issues are linked to or perpetuated by stress.
This makes practicing IM and mind-body medicine to make us healthier and optimize our wellness outcomes a scientific, serious matter. Yet, it doesn’t always have to be somber.
In my latest post, I show how we can take this topic with a bit more levity. I also give some tips on how to make relaxation and IM more of a ritual in your life so you can benefit your DNA. Specifically, I discuss:
- How the connections between laughter, genetics, and mood can impact your heart health.
- Why taking time to refresh and rejuvenate should be a priority in your day.
- Tips for making relaxation a daily habit.
By disengaging from the chaotic world and taking time to reconnect with yourself using mind-body applications, laughter, and relaxation, you can alleviate the negative emotional and physical impacts of stress and promote mind-body flourishing.
This is why taking time to find joy in life and nurturing yourself with silence and calm should be as much a priority and part of your wellness program as exercise and diet.
Do you agree?
Now, when we find ourselves struggling, we have several natural approaches to wellness that we can use to place “mind over genes!”
Will you commit to relaxing and tuning-in more to your mind-body now that you know it can literally make you healthier and less stressed?
