This year’s back to school preparation looks a lot different from previous years. The current state of the world has made it necessary to implement many changes and new safety rules in order to send schoolchildren off to learn. Whether partaking in remote learning, or heading back into the classroom it is important to ensure that all pupils, teachers, parents, and families are mentally and physically supported. In this way, it will be easier to adjust to these shifts and get the most out of one’s education. (source, source)
On my homepage, you will find a summary of posts that lists several essential oils and blends to assist with alleviating mind and body tension and calming the brain. I also have references on foods to nourish the brain and other lifestyle factors to consider. You can access it here as a companion to this blog.
In this post, I wanted to highlight some other oils and blends that are unsung heroes and are often overlooked as top contenders for supporting a calmer environment for learning. I have found them very helpful in naturopathic medicine practice as well as for personal use with my family.
The Comforting Aroma of Copaiba Oil for Whole-Body System Support
Copaiba oil interacts with the endocannabinoid system which supports every part body. It is said to be a homeostasis regulator that impacts rest, appetite, sleep, mind, and defense. Copaiba contains high amounts of beta-caryophyllene. This terpene modulates the cannabinoid receptor (CB2) resulting in many wellness benefits from the brain to the bones. CB2 receptors are mainly located in the nervous system and immune system. (source) No worries, it is non-psychoactive. It does not interact with the CB1 receptor as THC in the cannabis plant does. This oil can be diffused or applied topically with a carrier oil to enhance overall wellness and mind-body balance.
A Purifying Environment Oils Blend
Purifying oil blend is one that is multi-faceted in use. It contains lemongrass, citronella, rosemary, lavadin, myrtle, and tea tree oil. This is a good mixture to enhance the enjoyment of the outdoor environment annoyance-free from unwanted critters. It’s also a clean and invigorating scent that serves as a healthy substitute to diffuse in place of the toxic-fragrances of air fresheners and candles. These harmful synthetic chemicals can negatively impact health and cause headaches, brain fog, and other issues that hinder learning. This blend can be soothing to the skin and applied with a carrier oil to the back of the neck to enhance focus. It can also be diffused to purify the home.
Head Tension-Relief Blend
This blend is meant to ease pressure in the head and whole body. It contains basil, marjoram, peppermint, lavender, Roman chamomile, and helichrysum oils. This combination soothes the mind, decreases stress, and allows for healthy blood flow to ease muscle tension. This is one of my “must-haves” for diffusing and inhaling while prepping for big exams and when deadlines are looming!
Four Thieves Blend
The legend of the Four Thieves blend, a combination of different spice oils, was purported to protect grave robbers from contracting diseases while pillaging dead bodies. (Pleasant!) This mixture can be diffused for purifying the air while providing antioxidant support to the body. It can be diluted and applied to support oral health or rubbed over the belly to ease digestion and alleviate discomfort. It is good to diffuse regularly to support the body’s defense system and promote healthy air quality. Learn all about this blend here.
Other Honorable Mentions
Kunzea Oil
This is truly a unique essential oil. It is a single oil with a chemical makeup that makes it behave more like a blend. Learn more about all its benefits to the mind and body here.
Rosalina, AKA “Lavender Tea Tree” Essential Oil
I consider Melaleuca ericifolia a hybrid between lavender and tea tree. This means you get a lot of versatility and calm in one bottle. Learn more here.
Summary
With the new school with all its new changes, it’s very important to keep our minds and bodies optimized in order to keep our brains on task. Essential oils are the perfect tool to enhance mental, emotional, and physical health.
