As a naturopathic doctor, whenever I am working with someone, I always consider their biochemical individuality and genomics in order to create a personalized nutrition and supplement support protocol. However, the physical is only one part of a holistic wellness plan. Stress, lifestyle, relationships, environment, beliefs, sleep, and spirituality all have just as much impact on their current health outcomes.
Many of my new clients sometimes express surprise when I focus on the mind-body-spirit aspect of the functional medicine matrix. At this point, I explain how if this is not addressed any physical modality is a Band-Aid, at best. This is because trauma and stress can rewire our brain and have long-term, negative health consequences.
In a recent survey, it was found that over 50% of respondents are experiencing negative mood states and over 40% reported a decline in mental health as a result of the current conditions. In my latest post on my homepage, I discuss the impact of trauma and stress on the mind-body and provide several methods one can incorporate to calm their mind-body. These include:
- Breath work
- Mindfulness
- Spending time in nature
- Acupressure
- Restoring and unplugging
- Human connection
- Staying on schedule
- Herbs and essential oils
- Finding gratitude
- Faith
Bonus: EFT
