Even before the current condition of our world, reserves for our cognitive and physical resiliency were already diminished. The added stress of daily uncertainty and wavering restrictions and precautions for leaving the home have left most individuals even more exhausted.
A research review of 43 studies regarding the mental health of our society was recently released. The authors report that since the crisis, people are more depressed, anxious, and sleep deprived.
Many feel they need to push-through in order to survive; however, being in “constant go-mode” literally changes your brain, but not for the good. Furthermore, being in chronic stress with no time to reset has a lot of downstream detrimental physical effects. These include achy joints, belly bloat and digestive issues, skin changes, and hormonal imbalance.
How do we stop the hamster wheel and move toward a path of more fulfillment?
Doing more is not the answer, at least not in a panicked state.
