Often times, we as gardeners become so engaged in the mechanics of our craft, we inadvertently miss out on the harvest of our season. Last week after a long day of garden maintenance (and yes it was hot and I was up to my ears in garden dust and sweat).. removing the day’s garden debris from my trailer, this visual stopped me in my tracks! I quickly ran to my truck, grabbed my cell phone and snapped this picture.
The joy in both seeing this and being able to capture this beautiful pollinator on one of my cone flowers filled me with such delight! How often do we labor and research on behalf of our gardens, yet neglect to “stop and smell the roses” as they say.
And yes…if you look carefully at the background of this picture, the trained gardener will note that there are LOTS of weeds in the background of this garden bed. Opps, one of those areas time has not yet permitted me to tend fully to this season. But this little slice of beauty reminded me of 2 things:
1. Time is short, as well as seasons and bloom…so seize the moment.
2. Yes, there will be many weeds in the garden, but beauty can emerge in all things great and small. So don’t be too busy to miss it!
