What a fantastic way to jump-start my 2015 garden season. I am attending the largest green industry conference and exhibition in the region this week. Hands down…my favorite workshop thus far was Jan Johnsen’s, Heaven is a Garden: Designing Serene Outdoor Spaces!
Jan definitely spoke to my garden spirit this morning. She so cleverly articulated why I use the tenants of simplicity, respite and joy in my designs. Sitting in the workshop I felt the presence of a kindred garden soul that gave me the clarity and organization of the design thoughts that swirl through my head as I plan out garden spaces.
I now understand why I used that yellow color to accent my whimsical pieces in my garden. And for all the good natured ribbing I received for painting and cable hanging those old windows in the background of my garden 2 years ago (they were a unique roadside find that screamed…take me!) I can now reference Jan for my train of thought!
And who would have though…my usual assessment of directionality in my designs had emotional elements that contribute to well being and enjoyment of the garden space beyond the basic considerations for plant growing habits. I will definitely use this new way of applying cardinal directions as I design new spaces this season.
So of course…had to get the book signed and meet my new favorite author. Loving New England Grows 🙂
