I’m really excited to write this post and, as I sit here at my computer knowing full well that I am going to put a lot of work into this one, I am hoping that you, the readers, will appreciate my efforts and read through to the end. There are two reasons for this: 1) Halfmoon Works is a small business in Clifton Park doing big things for young adults with developmental challenges and, 2) within the body of this post will be directions on how to enter to win a hand-made wine caddy from this company, complete with a bottle of wine and glasses from the Saratoga Winery!

I have the distinct honor and total pleasure of beginning to work a few hours a week taking care of social media, web updates (as soon as I learn the new platform), and hopefully helping to generate sales for Halfmoon Works, a woodworking shop located, obviously, in Halfmoon, in the Town of Clifton Park, NY. As quoted from their website (http://halfmoonworks.com/):

The goals here are the same as with any business employing a young adult just entering the workforce: teaching the importance of timeliness, helping to develop good and solid work ethics, focusing on learning and continuing to strive to be better on a daily basis and, in this particular instance, learning the skills necessary to produce high quality, hand-crafted wood products.

I can’t begin to describe how excited I am to be helping out such a worthwhile business filled with eager-to-learn employees and such a dedicated and passionate staff! My main goal initially is to inform everyone of their existence and all the good work they do, in addition to showcasing some of the beautiful products this company produces.

Halfmoon Works came into existence from its founding organization, Fast Break Fund (http://www.fastbreakfund.org/), a non-profit which offers sports programs to children of all ages with varying developmental challenges. As the Fast Break athletes (and other young adults) graduate high school and look toward their future, Halfmoon Works offers a viable option, helping them to develop the skills necessary to enter the workforce of adulthood. They currently employ ten young adults — two women and eight men. They work part-time with hours varying anywhere from 4 to 30 a week, and one woman works off-site at their retail co-op, Artique. Employees all have a knack for woodworking, they like and enjoy the work, and are provided with training on the machines.

That being said…here’s the contest! Head on over to their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Halfmoon-Works-458882580917549/). Simply like the page, and share this post. We will draw a winner from all entries on November 26, which is coincidentally Small Business Saturday! And your prize??? A beautiful hand-crafted wine caddy made at Halfmoon Works, including a bottle of wine from the Saratoga Winery and two wine glasses. That’s a $60 value! And you’ll be doing yourself the favor of following the progress and success of Halfmoon Works and their exceptional employees!

The products crafted are of the highest quality. Items include (but are definitely not limited to): cutting boards, cell phone/iPad holders, wine caddies and wine accessories, Adirondack chairs; and their biggest sellers, raised planter beds.

Businesses can purchase at wholesale pricing and can have their logos laser engraved on the products. Additionally, items may be custom-designed upon request.

I am so happy and so proud to be involved with both Fast Break Fund and Halfmoon Works. It fuels a passion in me which, I hope, will work to my advantage in helping get the word out and helping them to increase sales. Planter beds: Six-pack and growler caddies:

The more I can inform people of what they do, the more sales that can be generated, and the more people they can employ. Simple as that! Please be sure to check them out, and help me spread the word about this wonderful company and all the good work that they do!!
“Halfmoon Works’ mission is to employ young adults with developmental differences that have the ability and interest to earn a living through woodworking. We have employed many part time young adults over the past few years. Currently, we are partnering with BOCES and developing a work based learning program for students to gain real work experience in our workshop.”
