You only had to be at yesterday’s Firecracker 4 in downtown Saratoga for about 5 minutes to get caught up in the festive atmosphere. The music, the vendors, the giant LL Bean boot car, the dogs, the runners, the spectators…it was pretty awesome.
In addition to the over 3,000 runners competing in the race, many people may have seen the tandem bike riding alongside the competitors. I am a member of the Saratoga Lions and became involved with this organization in large part due to Camp Abilities Saratoga (http://campabilitiessaratoga.org) where I volunteered last summer as a photographer. If you aren’t aware of Camp Abilities, it is a one week sports camp for children with blindness or visual impairments, held at Skidmore College in August.
I just wanted to share the fact that we are lucky enough to be one of the beneficiaries of the Firecracker 4. This wonderful organization donated ten tandem bikes to our camp! One of our campers, Alex Sorensen, rode one of those new bikes in the race with Lion Norm Smith. I was so proud of them that I had to share a couple of photos here before I get into all the race photos. Below, Alex and Norm pose with Mayor Yepson.
Ok, on to the race photos. No more words from me…promise! Just fun photos. And one comment that the little girl below, in addition to being adorable with her face painted and her red, white and blue hair ribbons, was also celebrating her birthday. The ribbon pinned to the front of her top declares her to be the birthday girl. Happy Birthday!
As promised, I am done talking. Enjoy the photos. If you recognize anyone, please share the link with them. And CONGRATS to Patrick Geoghegan of Syracuse who won the race with a gun time of 19:27!
Congratulations to all the runners!
