I’m heading out of state for a few days mid-week to visit my daughter for Mother’s Day! I’m so excited to see her and spend some time with her, however, it does mean that I will be missing the Tulip Festival in Washington Park in Albany over the upcoming weekend. With that in mind, I headed out very early this past Saturday morning to give myself a little pre-Tulip Festival field trip.
Many of the buds were not yet open which bodes well for the Festival, however, the park was still awash with the beauty of those that had. The sun was at a perfect angle so early in the day and, while there were lots of people out already with their cameras just like I was, there were no crowds.
I was going through all kinds of contortions to try to get clear shots without power lines or parked cars in my photos, and it was tough. I finally laid down on my back in the wet grass and on the muddy gravel to try to find angles that were obstruction-free. My once-upon-a-time light lavender jacket is now, needless to say, filthy. But I got clear shots!
For a complete schedule of events, head on over to: https://www.albany.com/news/tulip-festival.cfm. In addition to the tulips, enjoy live music, a variety of foods, childrens’ activities and much more. They are expecting there to be over 100,000 flowers in bloom by Saturday!
The Festival runs from Saturday, May 9 – Sunday, May 10. I have always found it to be a perfect and beautiful way to spend Mother’s Day!
