Today the sun came out. That statement, all by itself, is worthy of headlines. Add to that the fact that the sunshine threw the temps above 30 degrees and things began to actually MELT, and we have reason to celebrate! Everyone, including myself, ventured out from under the warm blankets and tore themselves away from toasty fireplaces, and headed out to enjoy this spectacular day.
I had no set plans for the first half of the day since the earlier forecast had called for today to be rainy with some ice, so I packed up my camera and snowshoes, and headed out with no true set itinerary. I found myself at the Farmer’s Market (took tons of photos there for a later post), chatted with lots of friends, and then headed over to the Hall of Springs/Avenue of the Pines/golf course to do a little snowshoeing.
Of course, everyone was out either snowshoeing or skiing, jogging, pushing strollers through the slush and puddles, etc. It was great. I wasn’t really focusing on taking photos, this was a day to just enjoy…but I kept noticing all the cool shapes and lines created by the shadows on the fresh snow. I made my way back to the car and got my camera and started hunting down all the interesting formations and shapes that were everywhere. I thought (and now hope) that they might make an interesting blog entry. Note the arches, lines, and shadows created by the beautiful buildings, trees, and even snow banks!
I really loved the curves of the snow on this buried bench as well as the interesting shadows cast by the surrounding trees.
I walked/snowshoed for hours. The sun felt so good! I was glad to have my camera with me. In the photo below, I was struck by the bend in the road, as well as the reflection of the tree in the puddle and the solitude of the man walking his dog. I loved this shot.
As mentioned above, I spent some time at the Farmer’s Market talking to the vendors there and, yes, sampling some wine and even moonshine. Good stuff.
I will go through those photos and see if I can adequately showcase and describe all the great products being sold there, as well as the incredibly kind and informative vendors I met along the way, in a subsequent post.
For now, however, here are a few more shots from today. None struck me as particularly special photos, but the beauty of the day was certainly worth documenting and sharing here. And I got a ton of great exercise on a warm, sunny day in February. Not bad!!
Have a wonderful week, everyone! The extended forecast doesn’t look too bad. How far off can spring be anyway??
