About this event
About the Concert: This concert, which takes place at the magnificent First Presbyterian Church in Glens Falls, features soloist Chris Reynolds, a highly esteemed opera coach and collaborative pianist, in a work by Paul Hindemith that is not often performed. "Four Temperaments" is an orchestral work to accompany a ballet for George Balanchine at the forerunner of the New York City Ballet, The Ballet Society. The piece and the ballet are acknowledged as a masterpiece. Then the stage lights up with young, leading piano students from the Capital Region will literally play musical chairs as they share the piano benches for a collaborative performance of Camille Saint-Saëns' beloved "The Carnival of the Animals".
About the Guest Artist: American pianist Chris Reynolds has made a name for himself as both a soloist and a collaborator. His performances have been hailed by Opera News as “exquisite,” and played with “jaw-dropping virtuosity.” Previously a opera coach or répétiteur at the Staatsoper Stuttgart, he now serves on the music staff of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2023, he completed his tenure at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as ensemble pianist. Last season he also had debuts at San Francisco Opera and the Kennedy Center. Recent seasons include performances with L.A. Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and the New York Festival of Song.
He has performed at Bayreuth, Carnegie Hall, and Tanglewood. He is a three-time winner of the Juilliard Vocal Arts Honors Recital Auditions, which has led to recitals in Alice Tully Hall. He has been a fellow the Aspen Music Festival and School, and has worked at the Metropolitan Opera and Lincoln Center Theater. He holds Doctoral, Master, and Bachelor of degrees from The Juilliard School.
In October 2022 he released his debut album, Past is Prologue with Lexicon Classics, featuring all of his own transcriptions of works ranging from Schumann to KPop.
