Today’s topic: Where to look for a job.
This is an interesting topic. In today’s world the jobs are sought out using the power of the internet. This is a great way to begin a job search. The only question is where to start.
There are so many different places that companies advertise open job positions. There are, of course the big boys in job searches, Monster.com and Yahoo Hotjobs.com. Locally, there is Adirondackhelpwanted.com and Capitaldistricthelpwanted.com. These two kind of overlap in the Saratoga/Glens Falls region so you should look into both.
The New York State Department of Labor has a job website called the New York State Job Bank. This site is especially useful because there is no charge to employers to post a job position. All companies should post their open positions to this site. Make sure to check into Saratoga.com and GlensFallsregion.com as businesses are utilizing these websites also.
You can also check out hebercareerpath.com. This is a comprehensive website which allows a user to have one and only one sign in and check out over 1000 different job boards including Monster and Yahoo.
Another avenue for job searching is print advertising. The Post Star, The Saratogian and The Times Union are the local newspapers companies use to advertise positions available. But also look into the smaller press items such as The Chronicle or any of the Free Press.
Now that you know where to look, the next topic will be how to look! Coming Soon!
