According to Sensationalcolor.com, Blue is overwhelmingly considered to be the favorite among all the colors. Blue also seems to be the color that evokes a sense of trust, dependability, and commitment. These qualities alone could be the reason why blue is considered a favorite. It could also be why I rarely meet someone who doesn’t like the color blue, it doesn’t have to be their favorite but I rarely hear a person say they do not like blue.
Blue has such a calm and tranquil feel to it. There are so many shades and variations of blue that using it in your home to me is one of the easier colors to choose from. Blue not only pairs well with other colors but you can choose form a full spectrum of blues from the light/barely there blues to gray- blues, to purple-blues, or green-blues, the range is so wide that at some point in your decorating adventures you will come across blue.
Here are a few interesting facts I learned about blue during my research compliments of Sensationalcolor.com
Blue is the favored color choice for toothbrushes.
Owls are the only birds that can see the color blue.
Powder blue is often used in products to promote cleanliness and purity.
Blue is the least “gender specific” color, having equal appeal to both men and women.
The last fact started to make me think, maybe that is why when decorating or painting a room we don’t get a lot resistance when it comes to blue, it speaks to both men and women equally. So for all of you out there right now trying to decide on a color for a room or what color rug or couch you are going to pick out if you haven’t already thought about blue, give it a shot!
Blue is a very easy color to work with. It plays well with the other colors. You can choose from an array of accent colors depending on your color of blue. My guess is it would be difficult to choose a color that didn’t go well with blue. For example, coral. There are not a lot of colors that pair well with coral but blue works very well with this shade.
Orange is another color that doesn’t always play well with other colors. Like Coral, as seen below here, it too plays very well with blue.
Lastly there is nothing that goes better with blue (besdies white) than blue. Mix and match blues, it is almost impossible to not make a blue room look good.
I love blue. In my last two homes I have painted both my living rooms blue. I love the brightness it can bring to a room and I particularly love how no matter what time of year it is blue just always seems to work nicely. Four rooms in my house right now have at least one wall painted a shade of blue, from light blue to a very dark colonial blue. The possibilities are endless.
“Blue is the only color which maintains its own character in all its tones…it will always stay blue; whereas yellow is blackened in its shades, and fades away when lightened; red when darkened becomes brown, and diluted with white is no longer red, but another color – pink.” — Raoul Dufy
