Celebrate Earth Day and get a Jump on Spring Cleaning by Recycling your Goods at a Habitat ReStore SARATOGA SPRINGS – {{Let’s put it this way: That unwanted but still usable stuff in your garage and/or basement has been starting at YOU for too long! Here’s a way to give it a new home…}}

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties will host its first donation drive to collect goods to resell at the affiliate’s soon to be opened Habitat Restore. Local residents can get a jumpstart on spring-cleaning, while supporting the affiliates’ mission to help families build a place they call home.

Businesses and residents can donate items ranging from appliances, furniture and home goods to cabinets, lighting and building products. The affiliate will host the donation drive from 10 to 4pm and will be accepting goods at two local locations: “We are pleased to participate in the celebration of Earth Day by creating an opportunity to recycle unwanted household items and help fund affordable housing at the same time”, said Tammy DiCara, President of the local affiliate.

The affiliate’s Habitat ReStore relies on donations from individuals and businesses to keep the store stocked and all proceeds generated by Habitat ReStore are used to help build homes in the tri-counties. Shoppers can find an abundance of treasures, whether they need something to use today or an item they can upcycle into something new to use tomorrow.

“Our local affiliate is extremely proud to be opening a local ReStore. This is the first of many steps as we grow from building one home a year to three homes per year”, said Adam Feldman, Executive Director.

Habitats for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used building materials, appliances, furniture and home accessories at a fraction of the retail price. Last year alone, Habitat ReStores raised more than $122 million for homebuilding while diverting more than 120,000 tons of reusable material from landfills. ReStores are independently owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations. Proceeds are used to help build strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter in local communities and around the world.
