{"id":10667,"date":"2017-12-02T16:53:00","date_gmt":"2017-12-02T21:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/daily-planet-arthur\/?p=10667"},"modified":"2017-12-02T16:53:00","modified_gmt":"2017-12-02T21:53:00","slug":"the-working-farm-pitneys-high-tunnel-holiday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/daily-planet-arthur\/2017\/12\/the-working-farm-pitneys-high-tunnel-holiday\/","title":{"rendered":"The Working Farm: Pitney&#8217;s High Tunnel Holiday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SARATOGA SPRINGS &#8211; Pitney Meadows Community Farm will turn its new \u201chigh tunnel\u201d greenhouse into a festive facility for making holiday ornaments and decorations on Sunday, December 10. <\/p>\n<p>At the \u201cHoliday Ornament Festival\u201d between 1 and 3 p.m., families will find all of the materials they need to make a wide range of decorations, including pine-cone bird feeders, painted gourds, recycled wrapping paper from newspapers, and ornaments from such natural materials as pine cones, acorns, walnuts, berries, and seed pods.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/daily-planet-arthur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/63\/2017\/12\/multiple-ornaments.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"454\" height=\"404\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10666\" \/><br \/>\n\u201cMaking holiday decorations from natural materials is a great family activity at this time of year, but it takes a lot of time and preparation,\u201d said event co-organizer Kim Fonda, a former member of the Saratoga Artisan and Crafter Market. \u201cWe&#8217;ll make it easy by having a long list of materials available in one space. We&#8217;ll also provide expert assistance.&#8221; \u2028\u2028<\/p>\n<p>Space heaters deployed in the high tunnel will make the space comfortable, no matter what the weather. Mike Fields from the Washington County Draft Animal Association will offer wagon rides with horses decked out and decorated for Christmas for all to enjoy a tour around the farm.  \u2028\u2028<\/p>\n<p>Hot chocolate, cider, Christmas cookies and other holiday refreshments will be served. Also, the Saratoga Santa will make a special appearance around 2:15 p.m. to wish everyone \u201chappy holidays!\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>A $5 per-person or $15 per-family donation is suggested.
