SARATOGA SPRINGS – Here we are – just weeks away from spring and months away from when you set your New Year’s resolution to get healthier. What if you thought of time as something fluid instead of something linear? This would mean that you have a new opportunity and an abundance of chances to make healthier choices every second of your day. January 1st is just another day. Just another 24 hours of your life. That date does not have to define whether or not you have accomplished your goals. Instead, shift your focus to what decisions you can make right here, right now that will be healthy for you and bring wellness into your life.
You didn’t lose those 20 pounds yet, huh? What choice can you make today that will get you to that goal eventually? You make decisions all day long that will either accommodate you getting to your goal, keep you where you are, or push you farther from it. This may sound cliché, but this is a journey that is taken one step at a time and many steps are needed to reach the destination.
Here are some small steps you can take to get closer to your goals:
o Choose foods that fuel your body, not foods that soothe your emotions.
o Move a little bit more today than you did yesterday.
o Take time for yourself. Read a book. Take a bath. Hang out with your buddies. Practice yoga. Adopt a pet. Whatever it is, do it for YOU.
o Give yourself a compliment!
o Applaud your good decisions and don’t get discouraged with a poor decision. Every day is a new opportunity to succeed.
It is so much easier to get down on yourself and give up, so prove to yourself that you deserve to be healthy and happy. Small steps will get you to your destination and I am proud of you for taking this journey.
