SARATOGA SPRINGS – On Saturday, October 13th my girls and I bundled up and headed to Pitney Meadow Farms for the first ever Family Fire Feast.
Here’s everyone’s analysis:
Julia-age 12-Vegetarian
My favorite part of the event was that they included a pit dedicated to dietetically restrained people such as myself. They also included a table full of healthy, Pitney Farm fresh vegetable salads.
The main dish had roasted cauliflower, caramelized onion sauce, shaved carrot salad with charred scallion vinaigrette, whipped ricotta, potato and sweet potato crumble It was prepared by Cole Murphy, Associate Chef at 15 Church, with vegetables harvested and donated by the Pitney Farm.

Mandy-age 43-Meat Lovin’ Fool
Unlike my beautiful daughter, the star of the feast for me was Laura Fowler, Sous Chef for Yadoo, and newly appointed head chef at Thirsty Owl. This dedicated soul arrived at Pitney Meadow Farms at 9 pm Friday to start her fire pit. She stated that she wanted the beef to cook long and slow.
Brisket is best cooked at a low temperature for a long amount of time. Laura put the beef, provided by Mack Brook Farm, on at midnight and then for the rest of the night set her alarm for each hour. In between turning, checking and smelling, Laura slept in her car and became one with the creatures that visited her at night.
It was so fun to overhear Kevin Jablonski and Karen Christensen, the owners of Mack Brook Farm complementing Laura on her approach of cooking their beef and creating a true mouthwatering farm-to-table dish.

McKenzie-age 10-Celebrity Chef at heart
I also had a fond liking for Chef Laura Fowler’s work today, especially her roasted sweet potatoes topped with whipped feta.
Let’s just say it saw me four times.
And kudos to the dessert table covered with many sweet treats to enjoy. My favorite was the fudgy brownies.

This family friendly food event, was not only kid and adult palate appealing, but there were plenty of activities to keep the kiddos happy and entertained..
Our favorite musician was a little fella named Ben. Ben was more than happy to dive into the bucket of kid instruments and add some percussion with his carefully selected egg shaker.
When all was said and done, we walked away with 2 raffle baskets, stuffed bellies, and even fuller hearts….
Next up….Fire feast on the Farm… Adult time!
Meaning: This is just part one.
