Concerts on Sunday, July 15 and Thursday, July 19
SARATOGA SPRINGS – For over 20 years, musicians from the New York City Ballet Orchestra have joined with friends to present chamber concerts at Saratoga Arts’ Arts Center at 320 Broadway in Saratoga Springs, during their annual residency at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
The concerts are a genuine labor of love for the musicians, including the series Artistic Director, violinist Luellen Abdoo, in which they offer intimate concerts and engage with community members in ways that are impossible from the orchestra pit in front of SPAC’s stage.
This year, the NYC Ballet Musicians and Friends will present two concerts.
The first, on Sunday July 15 at 7 pm, will include work by Handel, Schumann, Villa-Lobos, and the world premier of violist Jill Jaffe’s work “with each passing moon.” In addition to Ms. Abdoo, performers will include Christopher Oldfather (piano), Joel Pichon (violin), Jill Jaffe (viola), Mitch Kriegler (clarinet), and the Ballet Orchestra’s Associate Principal cellist Eugene Moye.
On Thursday, July 19 at 12 noon, the series will present work by Stravinsky, Mozart, Brahhms, and Percy Grainger. Musicians include NYC Ballet Orchestra Concertmaster Kurt Nikkanen (violin), Martha Locker (piano), Katarzyna Bryla-Weiss (viola), Mark Shuman (cello), as well as Luellen Abdoo (violin).
The concert on Sunday, July 15 will be followed by a dessert reception. Admission to both concerts is free, with a $7 suggested donation. There are no advance reservations for these concerts.
