Alta Havana Extends Exploration of Cuban Music
SARATOGA SPRINGS – Wednesday, June 6 at 8 pm marks the debut performance of Gisselle by the National Ballet of Cuba at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC). This landmark occasion promises to be significantly punctuated afterwards.
In other words, after the applause, accolades and well-deserved bravos (I am quite sure, even on Monday….) After Giselle: Head up the hill.
To another accent point – The Hall of Springs – where, for about a year now, a project has been incubating.
A revival project, but also a progressive project: The Jazz Bar will be open Wednesday night, as it has been all year-round. A new performance space: Created in the spirit of revival. And after a year, believe it when I say the incubation is over – this is the season, where patios and expansive lawns may enter the mix – and the SPAC team is ready to strut their stuff (I am quite sure, even on Monday….)
All in all, when you get there, you will be delighted. Ask anyone who has been there. Including Alta Havana. They’re gonna be ready too:
Their official bio is humble and refreshingly brief. But Alta Havana provides a punch. They return from an August, 2017 appearance. The pic above really says it all. The music starts at 10 pm and it’s all over:
“The richness and exuberance of traditional Cuban music and its many variations comes alive in the talented hands of Alta Havana members, Javier Antonio Porta Gonzalez (flute and vocals), Yusnier Sanchez Bustamente (percussion) and Jorge Gomez (keyboard/piano). All highly acclaimed musicians who have performed independently and with other ensembles on major festival stages around the world, the collaboration of their unique styles is a fresh, exciting take on Cuban music.
Make an evening of it on Wednesday. That’s your Monday Tout. Cheers!
