SPAC’s Monthly FREE ‘Live at the Jazz Bar’ Night is in the Groove
SARATOGA SPRINGS – OK, class – get out your calendars…
I want you to do something nice for yourself and block out the evening of Thursday, April 12 – that will be the next session of what has become, in just a few short months, an ‘Instant Classic’!
SPAC’s ‘Live at the Jazz Bar’ series, which began last summer following select performances from the Philadelphia Orchestra, is coming into full-flower in what has been traditionally regarded as SPAC’s off-season. In fact, the winter stand-alone version, which last occurred on Thursday, March 8, established a benchmark for this programming in this market – a nice crowd in the 150-200 range covered the dance floor at the Hall of Springs for “Swing Night” (although they left PLENTY of room for you next time) – featuring Lindy Hop and Charleston lessons led by Diane Lachtrupp and Johnny Martinez, co-directors of Tango Fusion Dance Company, and then a chance to show off what you learned to the sounds of Annie and the Hedonists.
In the April 12 edition, Diane and Johnny will be back again, along with Peter Davis (shown above on Clarinet) – Peter will be bringing another of his combos – Golfstrom – where the subject will be waltzing, my friend, for it will be Ballroom Night at the Jazz Bar.
A nice complimentary lite buffet, and with the exception of a cash bar (and I defy you to find another place in town where you can get a $4 Smithwick’s in town at this hour) – all of this is FREE!
A few more nights like these, and I have no doubt that by next summer you’ll be sacheting the floor with such smooth verve that Fred + Ginger will be looking down from heaven and saying: “Who are these guys?”
Happy dance!
