SARATOGA SPRINGS – Celebrate the holidays with the whole family and join Saratoga City Ballet for a rhythm-filled evening at The Nutcracker: Sweet + Swingin’. The first production of its kind in the Capital Region, The Nutcracker: Sweet + Swingin’ is a fusion of Jazz, Tap, African + Ballet dances featuring live music by The Chuck Lamb/Ria Curley Quintet along with dancers Johnny Martinez + Diane Lachtrupp of Tango Fusion.
Act I features the original compositions of Paul Arslanian and Duke Ellington, showcasing toe-tapping, dazzling numbers such as The Three Gifts (Tap, Jazz & African dance), The Funky Nut and Duke’s Place where Mice and Soldiers challenge each other with a battle of rhythms. Clara is then lead through the Land of Snow into the Land of Sweets, home to the Sugar Plum Fairy and her court, where they celebrate her with dances from around the world; set to Tchaikovsky’s classical score. Directed and choreographed by Tina Baird & Miranda Danise, this is Saratoga City Ballet’s 24th production of the Nutcracker – a perfect holiday treat for audiences of all ages!
The Nutcracker: Sweet + Swingin’ takes place Dec. 16th at 2 + 7pm at the Saratoga Springs High School, Loewenberg Auditorium. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for Students/ Seniors and children 5 and under are free. Group tickets are also available for a discount. Tickets will be available at the door as well.
