SARATOGA SPRINGS — Before I dive into this piece about Tonya and Nathaniel (Nate) Robinson – A dynamic, newly-married business and life partnership, I must share two relevant pieces of information about myself…
1. I was voted most athletic in High School
2. I just now finished my second Christmas cookie
Fitness (and eating) have always been huge parts of my life. I was invited to play varsity sports in 8th grade, taught various aerobic classes (can you say Step and Tae-Bo? Showing my age here…), and continue to work out multiple times a week.
I have tried all kinds of classes, led by numerous instructors… Tonya and Nate, with their creative combinations, fierce classes and “welcome home” atmosphere, are my number 1, go to option.
Let me tell you why…
My introduction to Tonya was over three years ago, when I stumbled into one of her classes. (Cue girl crush.) Tonya is the most down to earth, butt kicking without shaming, beautiful instructor I know.
My first impression of Nate: Perfect physique, dimples, and a full head of hair… so, of course, he must be cocky and unapproachable. Wrong! Nate treats his clients with respect and kindness all the while pushing them to their fullest potential.
When you put these two individual sticks of dynamite together you get TNT: “Tonya + Nate Trained.” These two and their ever-changing menu of classes are housed inside Saratoga Peak Performance, (30 Gick Road), owned and led by Dr. Bryan Briddell.
Tonya is an Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) certified trainer with additional certifications in NuPower Yoga, TRX Suspension and Functional Training, STOTT Pilates, and Total Barre. Her passion for movement and fitness began at a young age as a dancer, cheerleader and sprinter.
Nate is a native son. A Blue Streak you might have seen playing football and wrestling throughout his Saratoga Springs High School years. A specialist in personal training, he became a professional member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Science from Skidmore College.
Tonya and Nate’s classes emphasize strength training, high intensity, boxing and more:
• Strengthen and Sculpt – where you’ll use free weights, kettle bells, pulsing and more to build and tone, while turning fat into lean muscle!
• Boxing – You’ll burn up to 1,000 calories each class, all the while building endurance and core strength. Ladies and gentlemen, wraps and gloves on. For me, there is
nothing better than hitting the bag, learning crazy new combos, or better yet, having Nate call out punches as you hit his target pads.
• HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) + Bootcamp classes – These improve athletic conditioning, strength, stamina and increase your metabolism… and you feel great!
• Athletic Cross-Trainings – provide a total body strength program and conditioning workout that are sport- and/or athlete-specific.
Classes are kept under 20 people and modifications are always provided. I promise you will leave there feeling like the hour was designed just for your physical (and mental) needs.
And yet, there is also team-building at work… we are all in this together… classes always end with a finisher or a “game” – a tug of war or relay race. But if you are in complete beast mode and like more personalized attention, individual and small group trainings sessions are available, too.
When I told Julie Johnson that I was writing an article she told me: “Tonya has great energy. The workouts are hard, but fun – and you see results.”

BTW, TNT is also a family-friendly environment where you will often see parents training alongside their active children or little ones chanting “Go Mommy Go!” as they sit on top of a sled being pushed down the turf.
My daughter Julia has been to many of Tonya’s classes and a few years ago she wrote, “My physical, athletic hero is Tonya,” she said, “there are so many things I love about Tonya, she is funny, nice, athletic, strong, and she treats me like an adult. Tonya represents what a strong girl should look like.”

“But perfect is boring.

In this day and age, where there are gyms on every corner – TNT is a standout. I’m hooked!
