Melanie Foundation Presents Saratoga Senior Center with Proceeds from 2017 Saratoga Palio Race
SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Melanie Foundation, dedicated to the memory of Melanie Merola O’Connell, presented a check for $15,000 to the Saratoga Senior Center on Wednesday, November 22. This money came out of the proceeds of the annual regional favorite event – The Saratoga Palio – with a certified 5K run/walk, a children’s run, and a certified half marathon.
The original target of the race’s largesse was to promote scholarship, but has grown to such an extent that each year since 2009, local service organizations are designated to receive a portion of the proceeds as well. In previous years, organizations such as Saratoga Center For the Family, Saratoga War Horse, Jake’s Help From Heaven, Franklin Community Center, and Saratoga Bridges, among others, have been recipients.
On hand to present the $15,000 check to Lois Celeste, Executive Director of Saratoga Senior Center was George O’Donnell, President of the Melanie Foundation’s Board of Directors. They were joined by enthusiastic representatives from both organizations of all ages.
The date of the 2018 Saratoga Palio will be September 18. To learn more about the race and the great works of the Melanie Foundation, visit their website here.
