SARATOGA SPRINGS – In an intimate listening room that combines the refinement of a concert hall with the comfort of a living room, Caffe Lena is devoting the 1st Tuesday of each month to America’s most original contribution to the musical palate, JAZZ. This continuing series is hosted by resident composer, pianist and jazz master, Chuck Lamb, with support from music producer Joel Moss. JAZZ at Caffe Lena features collaborations between Lamb and internationally touring jazz artists, as well as many of the Capital Region’s best.
Chuck Lamb, who has been a member of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet since 2002, is not only an exciting and emotive pianist in his own right, but also a prolific composer of jazz, fusion, classical and world music. Most recently, Chuck and his band have released a CD of his original acoustic fusion music, titled North By Northeast. The CD has been receiving airplay on major jazz stations and garnering new fans and rave reviews worldwide.
Lamb’s featured guest for the month of November is jazz flutist Ali Ryerson. With a career spanning over four decades, Ryerson consistently ranks among the top flutists in the Downbeat Jazz Poll. She’s an international touring/recording artist, with performances ranging from Carnegie Hall to the Blue Note (NYC and Japan), and numerous albums on major jazz labels (Concord Records, DMP, Capri and Red Baron, among others). Her groundbreaking Jazz Flute Big Band, developed over the past 14 years, released their debut CD in 2013, Game Changer (Capri Records). The album hit the TOP 10 on the US Jazz Charts for six straight weeks.
Ryerson has recorded and/or performed with Red Rodney, Roy Haynes, Kenny Barron, Stephane Grappelli, Joe Beck, Wynton Marsalis, Julius Baker and Luciano Pavarotti. She continues to tour the globe, with recent appearances as guest artist at the Galway Flute Festival in Switzerland, the International Flute Festival of Lima, Peru, the 60th Monterey Jazz Festival, the New York Flute Club, the Florida Flute convention, the Rochester Flute Fair, and the Chicago Flute Fair.
