Savory Pantry’s Monthly Tasting Events Kick Off

SARATOGA SPRINGS- If you have never been in the Savory Pantry (486 Broadway) before, stop reading this and go! {Editor’s note: You can stay and finish – Savory Pantry is open seven days a week from 10 am – 7 pm (10-6 on Sunday)}
They have the latest “food movement” delights provided from local and around the globe. They also stock unique cocktail ingredients and entertaining essentials.
Many of the items are out for sampling and the service is beyond compare. As Natalie Sillery remarked to me at this event, “Savory Pantry is my new toy store, this is my new happy place. I am going to tell everyone to get me gift certificate here for Christmas”.
I have been to the Savory Pantry many times before, but have never experienced it like this.
First off, my long time friend Tas Steiner was hosting the event and I know from experience if Tas is involved to expect something magical.
In addition, all hands were on deck including the Savory Pantry Owner Keeley DeSalvo and her trusty tribe, there to assist and educate.
The focus tonight was on Naomi Mobed’s Le Bon Magot product line from Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Every Jar contained whole fruits and chutneys. My favorite was the white pumpkin and almond murabb (with cardamom and vanilla).
Tonight there were samples galore. I nibbled on sinful treats such as Patagonia bee products, raw rainforest honey to spicy samplings of Walker’s Southern Bloody Mary Mix.
With each delight my brain would say, “Oh, so-and-so would love this” or “hmmmm for Christmas so-and-so would be so happy”.
So I did what came naturally, and bought the items for myself. I couldn’t help it! Guilrty as charged.
I settled on SanSaba River Pecan Company’s peach pecan and amaretto preserve. My sample was put over creamy brie and placed on Stone Ground Grits. One bite, ok, I did sample two and this was a shopping cart must.
My next purchase was sweet potato butter. Please don’t wrinkle your nose until you have tried this. The ingredients are sweet potatoes, pure cane sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, pectin, spices and pure vanilla extract. NO way this is lasting until Thanksgiving in my house.
And what is a nosh without a drink?
The cocktails were prepared by bowtie clad John and the menu consisted of Moscow Mule (with Liber + Co. fiery ginger syrup), Prosecco (with the Liber + Co Tropical Passion Fruit Syrup) and wine choices.
All were tasty and flowing freely; and my counterpart and birthday girl, Carrie Rowlands Johnson was happy to know that the tropical passion fruit became my third purchase and brought to her birthday soiree’ as a present.
These unique events will be taking place each month. If you are lucky enough to find the time in your schedule to meander in, the next event will be on October 29th and will spotlight the Savory Pantries shrub products. What are shrub products, you ask?
Ahhh, come to the next event to learn and sample. And, if you are like me, ultimately purchase.
Just direct your feet to the Savory side of the street.
