Skippy and The Pistons Fill Congress Park For Free Show
SARATOGA SPRINGS – I really wasn’t sure what to expect tonight.
Long before I moved to this town, these guys were already on their way. As hometown crowd pleasers, Skippy and the Pistons’ legend is unquestioned…
And yet, on a night when LiveNation was presenting an exhibit of fossils (AKA the 50th Anniversary Moody Blues Tour), I headed in to Congress Park for the Sunday, July 16th edition of the Heritage Area Visitors Center free concert series (see schedule below) prepared for an audience of just a bunch of geezers and geezerettes feeling that nostalgia thing.
Not exactly…
What I DID see is timeless, multi-generational appeal. That is because (are you listening, Moodys?) Skippy and the Pistons keep their playlist fresh and updated, their band members are a mix of original members and relative newcomers – all highly experienced.
Pros. And that’s why you saw all ages and all types tonight…
You know that if the lady with the check – Heather McElhiney, Director, Tourism and Event Sales for Discover Saratoga – is happy, everybody is happy!
As night falls, and the ducks in their skybox are waiting to take back their park, The Pistons call up Skippy for a couple of Dion Tunes – he’s still got it folks!
As far as I can see, Skippy and the Pistons, while faithful to their heritage, are still able to create new traditions and lasting memories.
