Commemorative Book on the Horizon
SARATOGA SPRINGS – On Friday, June 30, a festive gathering occurred at the National Museum of Dance (NMD – located at 99 south Broadway – see their website here) to celebrate and commemorate the Museum’s 30th Anniversary, and the opening of a new exhibit – National Museum of Dance: Celebrating 30 Years. This exhibit offered retrospective historical notes, worked in harmony with the Museum’s current ongoing expositions (such as The Dancing Athlete and Dancers in Film), as well as offering insights into the Museum’s future.
In her greeting message, Museum President Michele Riggi gave insights about NMD’s upcoming annual Gala on Saturday, August 12th. Hall of Fame inductee Tommy Tune will serve as co-MC; and this year’s inductees will pay homage to two of the Museum’s key Founders: Marylou Whitney and Lewis Swyer.
Both Ms. Riggi and NMD’s School of the Arts Director Raul Martinez also acknowledged the staff and supporters who not only made this exposition happen, but the ongoing efforts that sustain the only museum in the United States devoted entirely to the art form of dance. Mr. Martinez also told the gathering that a forthcoming book – to serve as a companion to the new exhibit, written by Lisa Schlansker Kolosek – is scheduled for a release in August, and pre-ordering is now available at the Museum’s gift shop.
The National Museum of Dance is currently open for daily admissions Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday from noon to 4 pm, offering free admission on Tuesdays.
