Dogs and their Human Friends Enjoy Photo-op’ing for Jake’s Help From Heaven
SARATOGA SPRINGS – There had been some buzz about this at the water cooler hydrant all week, so I leashed up my human and strolled through our dog-friendly downtown to see what all the barking was about.
Aha! Now this is something I can wag over! A creative way to spread good cheer and help raise money for Jake’s Help From Heaven (see their website) on a pleasant Thursday evening, July 6, was occurring in front of Roohan Realty at 519 Broadway. There I met Steph Cash Hogan, who along with her husband, Justin, are a returning entry in July 19th’s Sixth Annual Finest Fillies and Some Colts Gala evening at Vapor.
Steph had been brought to this pop-up fundraiser by her ‘best friend’ Sadie – who I had palled around with at the dog park. Sadie was very proud of Steph, barking forcefully that if Finest Fillies were a distance race, Steph would dust the field on July 19. “Steph just finished her first Boston Marathon,” Sadie exclaimed, “and ALREADY is in training for October’s Hudson Mohawk Marathon… Woof!” We both agreed that 26.2 miles would have our tongues out gasping for air long before the end…
The photographer, Shawn LaChapelle, was an extremely friendly and patient human, who worked with each dog and their owners, and posed them in front of a backdrop of the historic Saratoga Racecourse starting gate. I noted that the backdrop was black and white, which let my canine buds’ coats pop. It’s the little things…
And, oh my! I had to bark with glee when I saw my friends Heather, Ethan and Brian Straughter had returned safe from Hawaii to come downtown and support Sadie and Steph. (The Straughters don’t have a dog of their own – so I sorta adopted them…)
While my canine friends were queueing up for their photo-ops, I schmoozed and perused the dog house listings that Roohan had… hey, you never know!
But don’t YOU be in the dog house! Make sure you have your ticket for July 19 – it’s the most fun humans can have!
