National Museum of Dance Hosts Country Line Dancing Classes Taught by Kevin Richards on Wednesday’s This Summer
SARATOGA SPRINGS – Defining the appeal of Country music can be tricky. For you could ask 100 people, and get 100 answers.
For this urban cowboy, I have always found that Country’s major attraction is it’s sincerity, delivered in a genteel fashion – where all are welcome. It is this “no ranks” inclusiveness that does it for me.
This point was hammered home, with emphasis, during the two years I spent in Nashville, during which time I attended many Fan Fest activities as part of the Country Music Association’s (CMA’s) festivals and awards programs. I saw how these artists epitomized the concept of gratitude – not “rockstar” attitude. Big stars and rising stars, generously taking their time to pose and sign with fans; thanking them just as much as they were being thanked for signing a shirt; not to mention posing with Aunt Mary Katherine Kate (and holding her up lest she faint) for a photo and a kind word.
It was the land of “please” and “thank you” ma’am or sir. I felt supremely privileged to be there. Even for a short time.
Well, the purest application of these principles in these here parts, pardner, can be observed and participated in on Wednesdays during the summer as Cat Country Radio Mega-DJ Kevin Richards hosts his line dancing classes at the National Museum of Dance, 99 South Broadway, in their School of the Arts’ Swyer Studios.
All ages, all skill levels, couples, singles, groups– everyone is welcome!
