Fingerpaint and Special Olympics of New York are teaming up to support a national campaign dedicated to spreading kindness and respect.
Spread the Word to End the Word
Wednesday, March 1, 2017
Presentation and pledge signing at 4 p.m.
Fingerpaint, 395 Broadway, Saratoga Springs
Fingerpaint employees, Special Olympics Athletes, members of the Saratoga Springs High School Unified Team and Youth Activation Committee (YAC) will be doing a presentation and taking the pledge to end the use of the R-word. Community members and media are welcome to attend and sign the banner —be prepared to finger paint your signature!
About the campaign: The R-word is the word “retard(ed)”. Why does it hurt? The R-word hurts because it is exclusive. It’s offensive. It’s derogatory. This campaign asks people to pledge to stop saying the R-word as a starting point toward creating more accepting attitudes and communities for all people. Language affects attitudes and attitudes affect actions. Pledge today to use respectful, people-first language.
