Auction of one-of-a-kind pieces slated for Sunday
SARATOGA SPRINGS – Who would not want this?
Or this?
Or these?
Well, this Sunday, these and about 50 other choice items could be yours!
The historic Adelphi Hotel, at 365 Broadway, is undergoing an ambitious renovation and is scheduled to re-open in the spring. While the bulk of the hotel’s original furnishings will be retained, a select choice lot of pieces have been consigned for auction this Sunday.
Ralph Fontaine’s Heritage Auctions, Inc. (visit: fontaine heritage auctions, located at Route 22, Canaan, NY 12029, has been named to conduct the auction of these pieces of Saratoga history. The Gallery telephone number is 518-781-3650.
Owner Ralph Fontaine was delighted to show off the lot (which filled two trucks!) to saratoga.com, and indeed the pieces in this post are just the tip of the iceberg. The web link above will take you to the entire Adelphi collection. “The first seven rows are all from there,” Fontaine said. “We anticipate, and will be delighted to greet visitors from the Saratoga area.”
The auction house has scheduled preview viewing hours for all the pieces:
Saturday, Feb 18: 11 am- 5 pm
Sunday, Feb 19: 10 am – noon
And the gavel starts going down, as it were, at high noon on Sunday, when you can start taking history home.
It will be interesting to see how many pieces return to zip code 12866, close to home, as they were decades before zip codes were invented! If I were a gambling man, i’d bet plenty will have a ‘homecoming’ of sorts.
Oh yes, i’ve picked out mine:
Sitting at this desk, in residence for decades… Your mind cannot help but expand as you ponder what was written upon it, and by whom… So, I must declare: This one’s mine… Hands off!
But the rest is fair game. Pick out something nice for yourself – who deserves it more than you?
