There is an inmate currently doing a life bid at Clinton Correctional Facility
named David Gilbert. He is one of the original members of the subversive 60’s radical group, The Weather Underground.
A graduate of Columbia University and activist for many years, Mr. Gilbert got
caught up in the quasi radical group, the Black Liberation Army and was part of
the 1981 Brinks Robbery in upstate New York where a security guard and two police officers were tragically killed.
Even though Mr.Gilbert was not armed and didn’t kill anyone, under the felony/murder law he was sentenced to life in prison for his involvement.
In spite of my being a conservative when it comes to crime and punishment, I believe that the felony/murder law is outdated and needs to be changed. The felony/murder has been outlawed in many countries such as England where it was invented but because it used by prosecutors to create snitches (which can’t be relied on anyhow) It is a draconian law that begs to be changed.
Mr.Gilbert has spent the past 25 years in a maximum security prison which is ludicrous because David Gilbert has never been a violent person and would not be a threat to society if he were released.
I believe Mr.Gilbert has served more than enough time and has been punished enough and should be pardoned and released.
