In Defense Of Honest Beauty Queens
By Nancy Muldoon
This past April, Miss California, Carrie Prejean was asked a very loaded question during the Miss USA Pageant by Perez Hilton. The question was, “Vermont recently became the 4th State to legalize same sex marriage, do you think every state should follow suit, why or why not?”
Miss Prejean stated that she thought marriage should be between a man and a woman, and that’s when the Pageant turned into a full fledged shit storm.
Although I don’t agree with Miss Prejean’s answer, she answered the question very graciously and more importantly honestly. So honest in fact, that it cost her the Miss USA crown. Then, to make matters worse Perez Hilton, then video taped himself calling Miss Prejean a “dumb bitch” and opined that Prejean’s answer was the worst answer in pageant history.
First of all, beauty contestants and people from California aren’t exactly known for their honesty and substance. I have the utmost respect for Miss California for possessing both qualities as we all should regardless of your own personal position on Gay Marriage.
Now Miss Prejean has been dethroned of her Miss California title for not fulfilling her contract which we all know is a farce of epic proportions. She was unceremoniously fired for being HONEST. What is the world coming to?
In conclusion, I also give Miss California snaps for pointing her finger in Today Show’s host Matt Lauer’s face this morning, again beauty queens aren’t know for having the balls to behave this way on live television and if they did, I might start watching beauty pageants, wouldn’t you?
