A concept of health that runs through all holistic practices is one of Above-Down, Inside -Out. This is the philosophy that our bodies heal and function from the brain down thru the body, and from the inside out. This paradigm is 180 degrees opposite then medical practice. Medicine treats the body from the outside in. This simple difference has kept these professions distant for over one hundred years. When making decisions about your health and well-being it’s extremely important to understand the basic concepts of these two health practices. One is treating the patient and one is treating the disease. As a side note, this was best portrayed in the movie “Patch Adams” with Robin Williams. He is a brilliant medical doctor who realizes the flaw in the outside-in philosophy of healing and decides to make a change. He continues to practice today with the paradigm of “treating the patient” and not the condition. I recommend that anyone who wants to learn more about “Above-down, Inside-out” watch this movie today. It changed my life!

I learned a long time ago it’s nothing about the destination but rather the adventures in our journeys to get there. 🙂
