We truly appreciate and would like to thank everybody who came out for our Community Event! It was a great turn out with 37 people in attendance. We were able to share stories about PT experiences, meet new people from the community, and check in with previous patients about how they are doing with regards to their condition as well as meet their families. It was a very special night!
Jeff and Shane did an outstanding presentation that covered the effects sitting has on our posture. They were able to discuss strategies that will keep those of you that must sit (for work or school) all day, moving and healthy. Some examples given included: practice active sitting (move more, reach more, e.g. put the objects you use most often further away from you), set a timer to go off every 30 minutes to remind you to move, or even use a smaller water cup so that you have to get up more frequently to refill it!
Jennifer and Alison gave a lecture on the effects of running, defining overuse injuries and the importance of cross training. One of the take home points was running is not enough to keep our bodies healthy. Both suggest you get moving with other activities in various directions (backwards, side ways, etc). As many as 70% of runners have pain each year! Therefore, it is important to incorporate other types of training to keep your bodies doing the activities you love without pain!
In all it was a successful evening! Congratulations to our winner of the $50 Fleet Feet gift card ! Thank you all again, SO MUCH, for your continued support of Sports Physical Therapy of NY. We will continue to strive to be the best we can, stay up to date on the most current treatments, and continue to meet your needs and desires as patients!! We hope all of the attendees enjoyed their night and, more importantly, learned something new and useful!!!!
